At Nau, Making Better means sourcing—and often creating—fabrics that set a new standard for quality, performance, and sustainability. We believe that creating the best products with the least environmental impact isn’t a contradiction or compromise, but a design problem to be solved.
In ten years, we’ve done a lot of heavy lifting in fabric innovation, including moving our entire down collection to recycled down, eliminating perfluorocarbons (PFCs) from our durable water repellent (DWR) treatments, and incorporating natural fibers like hemp, merino wool, and certified organic cotton into highly technical performance fabrics.
Nau uses third-party certification to verify and ensure strict adherence to our sustainability standards.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
GOTS is recognized as the world’s leading organic standard for textile products. It covers the use and processing of organic fiber throughout the supply chain, from farm to finished product. In addition to verifying organic growing practices, GOTS audits for compliance with environmental, social and quality management criteria.
The Organic Content Standard (OCS)
OCS relies on third-party verification to verify a final product contains the accurate amount of a given organically grown material. It does not address the use of chemicals or any social or environmental aspects of production beyond the integrity of the organic material.
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100
The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is a worldwide, consistent, independent testing and certification system for raw, semi-finished and finished textile products. Standard 100 ensures effective products safely for consumers through test criteria and limit values in compliance with or exceeding national and international requirements. Nau recognizes suppliers carrying certification to the Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX® for their sustainable awareness of the responsible use of chemicals.
Global Recycled Standard (GRS)
The GRS is a holistic certification for products is a holistic certification for products with recycled content. It is used for tracking and verifying the content of recycled materials in a final product, while also incorporating additional production requirements. These additional requirements include verification of responsible social, environmental and chemical practices.
SCS Global Services Recycled Content Certification
The SCS Recycled Content Certification evaluate products made from pre-consumer or post-consumer material diverted from the waste stream. Certification measures the percentage of recycled content for the purpose of making an accurate claim in the marketplace.
Nau recognizes bluesign® system as the best available market solution for sustainable textile production. By analyzing and controlling inputs, the bluesign® system eliminates harmful substances from the beginning of the manufacturing process. This not only ensures that the final product meets stringent consumer safety requirements globally but also provides confidence to the consumer that the product was made in a sustainable fashion.
