When faced with the loss of those too young and strong and good, who at least had the good fortune (if you'll pardon my use of that phrase) to go out doing exactly what they loved and lived for, I often think of the words of Jack London:

"I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them."

Love and strength to all that knew and were moved by Jonny, Micah and Wade.

thank you for the thoughts, Amy and David. In following with Jonny's example, there will certainly be more hula hoop in my future, that's for sure.

Nice, Eugénie. Pretty remarkable, the effect that Jonny had on so many people. Here's to keeping him in mind and following his example.

I lost another friend last winter to an accident, and in my sorrow my husband told me this, "Some life just burns brighter and quicker than others." Now with the loss of my friend Jonny, I feel I must remember that he was so vibrant that his energy he put forth into this world counted for 10 lives in the short period he was here. With a tears welling in my eyes I try to keep in mind that he died doing what he loved and for him, there was no other way to live.

Even if you didn't know these guys, the loss is truly profound. There are so few people in this world that really milk the days that are given and these three did exactly that. It sounds so cliche to say, but carpe diem applies here. In an age where it's okay to just coast, these men stood out as bright and willing participants in LIFE! Staying engaged in activities, interests, learning, exploring and knowing those around them to the full extent.

The last time I saw Jonny we stayed up late drinking beer with a group of friends and danced until 2 a.m. It was hard to know as Jonny's strong hands tossed me across the dance floor that this would be the last time I would see him. I'm thankful to have known him and to have danced with him in his very special life.

My continued thoughts of peace go out to all that know Micah, Wade and Jonny. I for one am going to try to memorialize by burning a little bit brighter in my own life.
