One of a Billion

According to CNN, one billion (1,000,000,000) people are expected to celebrate Earth Day today. One billion people around the world simultaneously coming together as activists for the same cause is kind of a big deal.

I saw Thomas Friedman speak at PSU a couple months ago, and he said “I’m so sick of Earth Day events- my conscious is raised”. Mine is too, but I’m still going to join the party.

That’s great that you are tired of the media pushing the impulse of Earth Day as if it is a new and fresh idea. You are ripe to evolve into a new way of thinking that will create something new, taken a step further, organize a new event for people who have this consciousness already, make something that all of us can be a part of. Or just sit back and be excited that many more people are waking up and have discovered the importance of taking care of the world. It is going to take all of us to do this, and while some of us are further along many more are entering a brand new phase of thinking and feeling about what is happening all around us every day. So when kindergarden starts and the class is full of wide eyed students, take a breath and put all your graduate school work to action and develop a new program. Who knows maybe we can figure out a way to fast track people who are just discovering that the Earth matters into a program that turns out Eco PHD’s in just a few years. Many thanks for the thoughts and the space to respond. I take many deep breaths as I travel and hope for the best in all around me to find the space within themselves to feel the connection and know what it will take to make a new way of life the values simplicity and the life of this Earth. God Bless
