Dream Bus

Dream_Bus.gif

Saw this bus on a walk yesterday.
Had to run over and look in the window.
Of course, it had the perfect sticker on it…

Why doesn’t a car manufacturer make a cool bus again? An AWD, hydrogen-powered six-seater with a fold-down bed in back (or above). Sink, toilet, and card table would all come standard.

This Westy concept car by Verdier is what I’m talking about… Hello, VW?

Buses should come back. Young folks can’t afford SUVs, and minivans are ugly.

I love vans. There is a little hope coming in fall 08. There’s a diesel Jetta Sportswagen that will get 40city/50hwy mpg. Now I know it’s no van but it’ll be a good Plan B. Maybe it’ll be a success and they can plan a van around it. Only this time, unlike the Vanagons, please make it reliable.

  3. Rick Says:

Maybe… Remember the Microbus prototype that VW kiboshed a few years ago? Why don’t they just throw a more fuel-efficient engine in it and cut out some bells and whistles to make it under $50K? Thanks for the comments!

A reliable fuel efficient bus. That is an idea whose time has come!

That Verdier site is fantastic. Thanks for sharing. I agree with everything you said except for the hydrogen part. A VW Bus powered by Hydrogen would look to much like the Hindenburg.

Haha! Have you guys seen the VW Bus that was re-released by Volkswagen in Brazil? The “Kombi”…. http://www.mavromatic.com/archives/000574

  7. Mario Vellandi Says:

That’s odd that they call it a Kombi. This is a word common in Germany to refer to wagon-like cars, short for ‘Kombination’ between a sedan and a van.

  8. Andrew Says:

The Kombi was one of the original names for the VW van in Europe. The “Transporter” being another. If you’re going to drop $50K on a van, just buy an existing vanagon, throw a bio-deisel engine in it and go. If you want to reduce, then reuse!! It’s common knowledge that there’s less enviromental impact when you fix up the old instead of buying the new.

Exactly! I always think this when I see the recent Beetle re-issues. There isn’t anything quite like the VW bus. I’d love to see the alt-version they could bring back. Good tip on Verdier also!
