I don't really agree with you about Anita Roddick. She might be a great entrepreneur and a good person. But the ways and means she had used to establish and grow the Body Shop were not entirely ethical. do you know that right from the name of 'The Body Shop' to the concept of reusing the containers and using natural products to make cosmetics was copied from a small shop in California, which Roddick had later acquired. And the after building the company on a so called green platform, why did she sell it to L'Oreal, which is not exactly famous for its sustainability practices?

I love what the message is here, about businesses that are there in business to make a change to the world we live in. Three Leaf Cards is much the same in thinking. Check out their climate change cards. One is very heart wrenching, and the other is a satrical approach to the "legend" of global warming. Fun cards and a fun way to encourage conscious consumerism. http://www.threeleafcards.com/desktopmodules/threeleaffree/Landing.aspx?pid=32&cp=0

"The Queen Of Green" -- Thank you for all you did and more importantly...what you will continue to do...forever and a day.

Found this on her site. In her own words. She was a force of nature.

Barbara,

I share your sadness. Its intersting that you mention Anita's book Body & Soul beacuse my first meeting with Anita was during her book tour promoting the aforementioned book. I had justt started to work at The Body Shop. Anita was coming to Toronto on one of her tour stops. A week or so before her arrival I received a call from her assistant indicating that Anita wanted to meet me. So arrangemnents were made for me to pick her up, accompany her to her speaking engagement and then have dinner together afterwards. The memory is etched in my mind. I met her at the appointed hour. It was in the Park Plaze Hotel where she was staying. She pranced across the hotel lobby like a whirling dervish and proceeded to give me a huge hug, as if we had known one another forever. That was Anita. We then began an evening of non stop conversation, athough it was Anita who did most of the talking. From that point on I knew she was a force to be reckoned with.

I was inspired by Anita Roddick's story. Her book "Body and Soul" encouraged me to think big and trust in myself. I am saddened by her leaving. Thanks for your personal tribute to her.
