I've enjoyed reading the feedback on Dee's home, including those who have asked for more information about building their own. For the past year I have been documenting the construction of my own tiny home, Gypsy Rose, in my blog at www.paddleways.com/blog/gypsyrose. I hope that it can be useful to those contemplating a similar path.

Truly an inspiring story...really!!! When one starts to evaluate what we "need", you realize most things fall into the want category. I like the idea of less time spent on cleaning and you can't argue with a $5 utility bill. Oh..small house = more time in the great outdoors!!!

Jen,

Dee isn't really transporting the house around. She has it "parked" in the spot that she lives. We took it for a spin during the video shoot (towed by Dee's biodiesal truck) but that's the exception not the norm.

full disclosure: i live in new york city. basically, she's living in a gorgeous, freestanding, studio apartment. i like the message that she's bringing to the burbs, but i think transporting a house around isn't necessarily the greenest thing to do. it is cool that she built it herself, though. and uses very little fuel to heat and eat.

Strike a deeper chord indeed.

Since seeing this video a couple of months ago, we have been spending way too much time on the Tumbleweed Tiny House website. It is really cool to go from "No way I could do that!" to "where would we put all our bikes?" to "wow, this is really possible." Thanks Dee.
