Be Here Now

Posted by Rick | December 21st, 2006 | Filed under Outdoor Sport, Personal Reflection, Who We Are

Shoulda been here ten years ago
(Before the resort bought the land)
Shoulda been here three months ago
(It was sunny every day)
Shoulda been here last week
(Before the touristas came to town)
Shoulda been here yesterday
(The waves were twice the size)
Shoulda been here an hour ago
(Before happy hour ended)

But I’m here now
(And loving every minute of it)

Happy Holidays from Punta de Mita, Nayarit, Mexico

Which break is that??? La Lancha? The Cove? El Faro? Or the Outer Reef? No need to share secrets, but great conditions! I hope you had the pleasure of surfing with a few of the friendly locals: Josue, Kemi, Ana, Jay, Mili… all amazing folks and great friends. I traveled from Punta de Mita to southern Oaxaca to the now “not a secret” break last summer with Josue and Mili.

On the earlier post regarding the Nelscott tow contest, I smiled when I read that you had run into Ryan Heim. He’s a great guy. I went out to the wave with him to shoot some photos a while ago, along with Dan (owner of Ossie’s) and Ollie. Those guys feel pretty miffed that only the pros are accepted into a contest on their local break.

Glad you were able to catch some waves down there.

You got it! One of the spots you mentioned above… I’m sure I surfed with some of the locals you name above, as I was lucky enough to share waves with only a handful of locals a few times on the trip. One 12-year-old who we surfed with often, Pablo, fixed a blowout on our car the first day there!

Love to talk to you more about Nelscott!

I had to say how much I really liked the poem. All of the “should haves” replaced with a happy to be here:::::now!

Thanks! Surfing really does keep me in the moment, and I’m sure that’s part of the allure of any challenging outdoor activity…
